Remote Learning Plan

Remote teaching and study time each day

In this section of our website, you will find an overview of lessons to be completed each day. If you select your child's year group page, you will see specifically the curriculum expectations set by your class teacher.  We aim to provide learning across the curriculum and children will be expected to spend a similar amount of time completing this as they would spend learning in school.

Worksheets and practical resources

If a child is isolating from school i.e. the child is sent home from school to either receive a test or self-isolate as someone in the household is being tested, they will leave school with a pack of work. Children will have immediate opportunity to continue their learning.The work packs will cover basic skills work that would be relevant at any stage of the year in English and Maths.

An Overview of our Remote learning

Our daily timetable will include:

Reading:   ReadWriteInc lessons and videos to support the children' early reading.

                  Oxford Owl- Online Reading Scheme

Writing:    Live lessons delivered by class teachers featuring the key texts of each year group.

                  Hey Pobble 365- Picture of the Day

Spelling:   ReadWriteInc resources to be shared with families

Maths:      White Rose Maths scheme; during lockdown, a daily 'live' lesson is delivered by class teachers.

                   Timestables Rockstars website for Y2 children 

Foundation Subject Lessons: linked to the year groups' curriculum. These lessons will be supported by the Oak Academy bank of lessons. The ‘teaching content’ will be provided to children through age appropriate video content on the Oak Academy website. This provides the equivalent of 3 hours of lessons per day for primary school children. In their ‘classroom each lesson is an hour-long. They’re delivered by a teacher, with a pre-recorded video as well as quizzes, worksheets and creative activities. It’s all easy to use, there’s no login or password, and you can access the lessons on any device- pupils only need materials they can find at home.

We teach the same curriculum remotely as we do in school wherever possible and appropriate.

Our approach to remote education includes a blend of live lessons delivered by teachers, online learning and resource available through online learning platforms such as the Oak National Academy, White Rose Maths and the Ruth Miskin ReadWriteInc online learning portal. This is in addition to activities resourced by the teachers. Families will also be signposted to commercially available websites supporting the teaching of specific subjects or areas, including video clips or sequences.

The remote learning set will be in line with the learning that would take place in the classroom ensuring that the children do not fall too far behind in their learning.

For Key Stage 1, three hours of remote education must be provided. The DfE said provision will include “both recorded or live direct teaching time, and time for pupils to complete tasks and assignments independently”.

How long can I expect work set by the school to take my child each day?

We expect that remote education (including remote teaching and independent work) will take pupils broadly 3-4 hours each day.

How will my child access any online remote education you are providing?

We are using the Seesaw App for families to access the remote lesson content and as a vehicle for sharing/uploading work. Zoom is used for live teaching and assemblies.

We recognise that some pupils may not have suitable online access at home. We take the following approaches to support those pupils to access remote education:

  • Pupils can access any printed materials needed if they do not have online access. These materials are available weekly and can be collected from the school office from 9am  Monday to Friday.onwards.

  • Work should be returned the following Monday to be marked. A new pack can be collected at the same time.

Engagement and feedback

What are your expectations for my child’s engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?

Parents and carers are responsible for:

  1. Adhering to the Remote Learning policy at all times during periods of remote learning.
  2. Ensuring their child is able to learn remotely and that the schoolwork set is completed on time and to the best of their child’s ability.
  3. Checking the timetable on Seesaw and make plans to complete the work by the end of the day.
  4. Accessing the relevant resources.
  5. Finding an appropriate place to work, concentrate and try hard.
  6. Sharing work via Seesaw.
  7. Asking for help from teachers via Seesaw, email or phone
  8. Informing school if pupils are unwell and therefore cannot complete their work.

How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

  1. Share resources, including websites, Powerpoint presentations and worksheets on Seesaw or through Zoom live lessons.
  2. Check the Seesaw comments and respond as quickly as possible to requests for support from families at home.
  3. Organise live lessons/meetings on Zoom at least once a day if the class bubble has closed.
  4. Arrange for pupils to share their work via Seesaw. Provide feedback on Seesaw or in a Zoom meeting.
  5. Be available between 9am and 4pm when working remotely.

How will you assess my child’s work and progress?

Work will be assessed and responded to via the Seesaw app. For those families with no internet access, the submitted work will be marked weekly. Regular contact will also be made between teaching staff and families to support the children's progress.

Any response should be made within 48 hours. Where a pupil is self-isolating on medical ground for a significant period of time, contact will be made via telephone on a weekly basis to monitor learning and provide support if needed.

Teachers will also be in daily contact with parents and families via the Seesaw app.

Pupils identified as vulnerable will be contacted by the Learning Mentor Team on a weekly basis and support offered as necessary.
