We support all our pupils and help them to exceed expectations, feel confident and grow. If you child has special educational needs, the team at Littlemoor is here to help. We have an experienced and dedicated team of teaching assistants led by our SENCo, Mrs Kathryn Briggs. Our SENCo is contactable by telephoning the academy's telephone number: 01302 701353
We are confident that we can support your child with any special educational needs or disabilities your child may have.
Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy is an inclusive academy which accommodates all kinds of special educational needs and disabilities. These are classified according to four main categories as referred to in the SEN Code of Practice (January 2015):
At Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, every child is recognised as an individual and celebrated for who they are. We are committed to ensuring that pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are welcomed, understood, and supported so they can achieve their full potential.
Concerns about a child’s development can be raised by parents or teachers at any point.
Our SENDCo works closely with staff, families, and external specialists to gain a clear understanding of each child’s needs.
We use the Graduated Approach – Assess, Plan, Do, Review – to ensure a child’s support is well‑thought‑out and effective.
Children may:
Diagnostic tools and assessments can be used in school to help identify needs accurately. External professionals—such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, ASCETS, Occupational Therapists, and school health teams—may also be involved when needed.
At Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, we believe that children make the best progress when school and families work together. Building strong, trusting relationships with parents and carers is central to how we support every child. To uphold this commitment, the academy will:
Before a child joins Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, we provide a thorough transition process. During this time, staff meet with families to discuss a child’s strengths, needs, and any additional support they may require. Where it is known that a child has additional needs, we aim to take proactive steps in advance of their start date. This may include school visits, involvement from external professionals, discussions with the Inclusion Team, and planning with the SENDCo.
Once your child is part of our school community, this support continues through termly review meetings and, where needed, informal discussions. If a class teacher identifies that further support is required, an initial planning meeting will be arranged with parents/carers.
A SEND Support Plan—along with a pupil‑centred One‑Page Profile—may be created, implemented, and reviewed. Every child on the SEND register has a support plan detailing clear targets. The SENDCo oversees these plans and may work directly with staff and families to develop them.
Children receiving SEND Support will have their plan reviewed termly, and the actions outlined will form part of the child’s provision map. Pupils with an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) will also take part in these meetings, which contribute to both academy and annual review requirements.
Provision maps, support plans, and EHCP documentation also clarify the involvement of external agencies and the type of support they provide, ensuring that everyone working with your child is aligned and well‑informed.
At Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, every member of staff is committed to promoting equal opportunities and fostering a positive, inclusive environment for all children. We believe that high‑quality teaching is the foundation for effective SEND support, and our lessons are always personalised and differentiated to meet the diverse needs of our pupils.
Our teaching approaches are flexible and responsive, ensuring that we match the curriculum to children’s individual learning styles, strengths, and areas of need. Staff use appropriate resources, strategies, and evidence‑based intervention programmes, selected following careful assessment of each child.
We provide support both within the classroom and through targeted interventions outside the classroom, helping to maximise progress academically, socially, and emotionally. Interventions are chosen because they have proven impact and are supported by strong research evidence, including guidance from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF).
Examples of interventions we may use include:
How We Measure and Review Your Child’s Progress
At Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, we closely monitor each child’s progress to ensure they are working towards their targets and longer‑term outcomes.
Your child’s targets are set using their previous attainment and individual starting points. Progress is tracked against the curriculum expectations for their year group, and this information is shared with you during our termly parent meetings.
For some children with SEND, additional support or specific interventions may be required to help them achieve their targets. Staff update tracking information regularly, and this is reviewed by the Senior Leadership Team during Pupil Progress meetings to ensure support is effective.
For pupils with a SEND Support Plan or an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP):
This systematic approach helps us ensure every child receives the right support at the right time.
How We Include Children with SEND in Academy Life
We are committed to ensuring that all children, including those with SEND, feel fully included in every aspect of academy life.
Teachers provide high‑quality, inclusive teaching, adapting methods, resources, activities, and expectations so that all pupils can access learning. Support from adults or peers may be used to build confidence, strengthen self‑esteem, and promote active participation in lessons.
Children with SEND are encouraged and supported to take part in the full range of experiences we offer, including:
Our aim is to ensure that every child feels part of our school community and has equal opportunities to enjoy, achieve, and thrive.
All interventions are monitored carefully so we can evaluate their impact and adjust provision when needed, ensuring every child receives the right support at the right time.

At Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, we place great importance on ensuring that all pupils—especially those with SEND—experience a smooth, well planned transition to their next school.
We maintain strong, positive relationships with the schools our pupils move on to. For children with SEND, transition planning begins well in advance to make sure their needs are fully understood.
During annual review meetings, particularly before children move into Year 3, we discuss each child’s needs, progress, and required support in detail. Staff from the receiving school are invited to attend these meetings so they can gain a clear understanding of the child’s strengths, challenges, and the strategies that work best for them.
Every child is discussed thoroughly with the receiving school’s pastoral and inclusion teams, ensuring that key information is shared and that support continues seamlessly as they move into the next phase of their education.
Our aim is to ensure every child feels confident, understood, and ready for the next step in their learning journey.

It shows families what they can expect from a range of local agencies, including education, health and social care.
Knowing what is out there gives families more choice and therefore more control over what support is right for their children.
