Geography Intent
At Askern Littlemoor Infant Academy, we aim to inspire pupils’ curiosity and fascination about the world and the people who live in it. In our infant school, Geography provides children with opportunities to explore their local environment while developing an awareness of places beyond their immediate experience. Through Geography, pupils begin to understand how people, places and environments are connected.
Our curriculum supports children to develop early geographical knowledge, skills and vocabulary. Pupils explore their school, local area and contrasting locations, learning to recognise similarities and differences between places, environments and communities. Through this, children begin to understand their place in the wider world and develop respect for different cultures and environments.
Our Geography curriculum is supported by the scheme of work from Kapow Primary, which encourages pupils to become curious and explorative thinkers who begin to think like geographers. Our curriculum enables children to ask questions, observe places closely, gather simple information and communicate what they discover. Learning helps pupils develop an understanding of how Geography shapes lives and environments over time.
Our curriculum is carefully structured to be both accessible and ambitious, enabling all pupils to build secure foundations in geographical knowledge and enquiry. Through engaging experiences, including fieldwork and exploration of the local area, pupils develop curiosity about the world and an understanding of the importance of caring for their environment.
Through Geography, we aim to nurture confident, curious learners who are eager to explore the world around them and develop the foundations needed to become informed and responsible citizens.
